What this comparison collects and why
Health Fund Compare uses your answers to request health cover matches based on official PHIS comparison data. Fund names, logos, premiums, and public-safe cover evidence are shown publicly; exact product identity and direct product or apply links are shown after verified sign-in.
This notice is a plain-language summary for the app. A full Privacy Policy with operator details, privacy contact details, retention periods, and service-provider information should be published before a full public launch.
Information used for matching
The app may use household type, state, cover type, age band, current cover status, current premium, restricted-fund eligibility, and optional preferences such as dental, physio, pregnancy, regional travel, or other cover context.
Optional health-related detail is not required. Before the optional-detail questions open, the app asks for a clear choice to send and use those details for the current shortlist. You can choose “Show results” and compare without providing them.
If you agree and provide optional health context, it is sent to the same-origin comparison service, used to shape the shortlist and temporary result detail, and is not added to your account contact record. It is not medical advice and should not replace advice from a qualified professional.
If you include information about a partner, child, dependant, or another household member, only provide what is needed for the comparison and make sure you are allowed to share it.
Browser storage
Practical choices are saved in this browser so you can move through the flow. Optional health-context notes are kept only in the current browser session by default. They are written to longer-lived browser storage only if you tick the consent checkbox.
Reset choices clears the comparison answers, saved email, and session notes on this device.
What is counted
To know whether the comparison actually works, this site keeps an aggregate count of how often things happen — the questionnaire being opened and completed, results being shown, coming back empty or failing, details and compare being used, sign-in being started and finished, a shortlist being saved, a support report being sent, and whether a search was fast or slow.
Each of these is a single running total for the day. Nothing identifies a person or a visit: no account, email, device, session or advertising identifier, no IP address, no page address, and none of your answers or health context. There are no advertising pixels and no session recording.
Because only totals are stored, we can see that, for example, results were shown a certain number of times today, and we cannot reconstruct any individual's path through the site. That limitation is deliberate. The daily totals are deleted after 180 days.
Email and plan details
Signing in lets us add exact product identity, direct product or apply links, and registered-only actions to the fund, premium, and public-safe PHIS evidence already shown. Google sign-in, Apple sign-in, and email-link sign-in use Firebase Auth to verify the email address.
We store your email only as an account contact record after you agree to be contacted. Your questionnaire answers are not saved to that contact record.
The results view uses a temporary generated result token. If you choose to save a shortlist, saved result data is stored separately from the contact record and can be reopened from a generated code/link.
You can turn off email contact, use an unsubscribe link, or delete the Firebase sign-in account and its contact data from the account panel. Deleting the account also revokes saved shortlist links.
Sharing and contact
We do not sell your contact details. We do not share your raw health notes or identifiable questionnaire answers with insurers, advertisers, or lead buyers just because you viewed a comparison.
If a future quote, referral, application, transfer, or call-back feature needs information to be shared with an insurer, broker, authorised representative, or partner, it should ask separately before that sharing happens.
Limits of the comparison
This is a PHIS-backed comparison tool, not personal financial advice, full insurer advice, medical advice, or a guarantee that a policy is suitable for you. The match score is decision-support information based on the answers and data available at the time.
PHIS data is useful for comparing policies, but it is not the complete policy wording. Premiums, rebates, discounts, excess, waiting periods, exclusions, restrictions, eligibility, and provider rules can change or depend on your circumstances.
Promotions never change a plan's displayed match score. At most, an offer can act as a tie-breaker between otherwise equally strong matches when a shortlist is ordered. Always review insurer policy wording and confirm current terms with the insurer before buying or switching.
Sources and methodology
Policy data is sourced from the PrivateHealth.gov.au private health insurance dataset published by the Commonwealth Ombudsman and licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia. Health Fund Compare transforms the source data into comparison and ranking fields. The Government and Ombudsman do not endorse this service.
Ranking considers the cover you asked for, price, excess, waiting periods, annual limits and household fit. It cannot confirm out-of-pocket costs, provider agreements or restrictions that the source dataset does not publish.
Access, correction, deletion, and complaints
The account panel lets you turn off email contact or delete the Firebase sign-in account, account contact data, and saved shortlist links. You can also use unsubscribe or account-action links sent by email.
Use the anonymous support and correction form to report a suspected data, site, privacy, account, or accessibility problem without signing in or supplying contact details.
A full Privacy Policy should explain how to request access or correction, how to make a privacy complaint, expected response timeframes, and how to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if a complaint is not resolved.
